Job Description The Vice President of IT Operations reports directly to the BAE Systems Inc CIO and is tasked with leading enterprise IT services across multiple platforms for over 32,000 users. This position is responsible for IT vision and strategy aligned to business objectives, anticipating industry trends and future states. This leader has extensive experience in modern cloud infrastructures and connnectivity. This leader maintains continuous awareness of technical, architecture, process, personnel, and cybersecurity issues that impact service delivery. This position is also responsible for leading strategic projects, creating modernization of infrastructure roadmaps, meeting service levels, as well as maintaining compliance will all applicable cybersecurity standards. He/she has capability to optimize technology processes including automation tools and technology.

The successful candidate has extensive experience with infrastructure engineering and operations, strong cyber-security understanding in the Federal contracting environment or equivalent compliance-heavy industry, technical leadership experience, excellent communication skills, enterprise business skills and the ability to manage strategic relationships with key partners and vendors. Responsibilities also include the total cost of ownership and the effectiveness of the support infrastructure to support BAE Systems Inc businesses across multiple sites with complex needs. Candidate should have strong background and understanding of cloud deployment and management strategies to lead modernization efforts in support of BAE Systems strategy.

Position location is flexible; required to be within reasonable distance to a major BAE Systems Inc. site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads interdependent teams to deliver day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure engineering for BAE Systems, Inc. at negotiated service levels and managed cost while maintaining cybersecurity compliance. Has capability to optimize technology processes including automation tools and technology and against modern cloud infrastructures
  • Defines and negotiates the business continuity strategy for IT services and oversees the anticipation and mitigation of disaster recovery scenarios
  • Maintains and rationalizes IT operations against resources and skills to ensure appropriate staffing levels, budgets, and competencies
  • Works with other units within BAE to include the Business Sectors, Governance, Transformation, End User Services, Applications and Security to ensure an integrated plan and delivery of IT operations
  • Negotiates IT related agreements with outside vendors on behalf of the business sectors to reduce cost and provide integrated service
  • Grounded in technical expertise within operations, will advise and coach subordinates to resolve technical and operational problems, will maintain the skill level of subordinates and will engage in collaborative career development with subordinates, will ensure effective utilization of staff, and will ensure subordinates adhere to applicable policies, practices, procedures, methods, standards, and guidelines, and will be responsible for the administration of reviews for the assigned staff, inclusive of soliciting inputs from stakeholders

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable; equivalent experience acceptable.
  • At least 15 years of experience in managing multiple, geographically dispersed, datacenters of various class, size, and complexity including in-sourced and out-sourced and / or co-lo based hosted based facilities.
  • At least 10 years managing enterprise IT operations in compliance with Federal Cybersecurity standards such as NIST 800-171 and DFARS.
  • Leadership experience of a large technical staff (~200 or more) with leaders who run different functions.
  • At least 5 years' detailed experience in AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure management and technologies. (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
  • Six to eight years of related experience in infrastructure/network environments performing network engineering (hardware and software), designing, planning, and implementing LANs/WANs using the latest technology. Extensive experience building cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Six to eight years in managing large, distributed staff to support sustaining engineering (7 X 24 production support), organic growth and new business initiatives.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in project management of major development projects.
  • Significant experience and knowledge in new computing infrastructures and implementation of networked computing structure; plus experience with development and implementation.
  • Previous experience in business process re-engineering, process improvement and automation, involving broad-based information systems, utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change; business systems analysis experience.
  • Five or more years of management experience in which one or more of the following areas:
    • Demonstrated experience in the execution of multiple large projects.
    • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management.
    • Experience in managing resources to meet goals across multiple projects.
    • Experience in leading multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups.
    • Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • More than 15 years of experience in managing multiple, geographically dispersed, datacenters of various classes size and complexity including in-sourced and out-sourced and / or co-lo based hosted based facilities
