This position is for an early-career system engineer who can work in and/or lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop, maintain, verify and communicate the requirements baseline for a mission that includes Segment, Element (payload, spacecraft bus, and ground) and/or Subsystems. You will work within your program and Electrical Engineering teams through the program life cycle to develop, and manage requirements for, electronic products for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:

  • Provide systems engineering leadership of technical teams in the development, verification, delivery, and operations of Missions, Segments, Elements, and Subsystems.
  • Work with the Systems Engineering team and larger program team to influence and define discriminating electronics solutions involving electro-optical imaging, mechanisms, thermal conditioning, payload control, mission data processing and power including DC-DC converter designs and products for power distribution.
  • Work with subject matter experts to define requirements for space-based electronics systems and components to include focal plane interface electronics, power electronics and power conversion, single board computers, high precision thermal control including cryo systems, and FPGA based controllers.
  • Support the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels through the lifecycle of the program.
  • Own the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of electronics requirements at subsystem and component levels through the lifecycle of the program.
  • Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for architecture to requirements traceability and interface development.
  • Work alongside SMEs to provide support for Electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down leveraging, DOORs, MBSE, and various other system engineering tools.
  • Interface with and support the program’s lead system engineer, chief engineer and customer.
  • Support expectations, preparations, and delivery for major gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR).
  • Coordinate requirements verification with I&T activities.
  • Mentor other system engineers assigned to the team.
  • Support the program Risk & Opportunity Management and ERB processes.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Polygraph.
  • System Engineering, System Traceability, or Electrical/Electronic component/subsystem management experience.
  • Familiarity with harnessing system design and test.
  • Familiarity with design, testing, and verification of electronic components analog circuit, digital circuits, FPGA, PCB Layout, electronics packaging, etc.
  • Experience using requirements database tools (DOORS, Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler, e.g.)
  • Demonstrated ability to review effective and verifiable requirements – detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation – a self-starter that will own this activity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams including meeting schedule and performance goals.
  • Good presentation skills with experience presenting to senior decision making and technical audiences.

#LI-NP1Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Working knowledge of interface and design documentation, such as functional block diagrams, PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills is highly desired.
  • Technical competence in the following areas: ROIC photodetector arrays, motor drives including 3 phase, voice coils and steppers along with associated feedback including resolvers and encoders, general analog circuitry for thermal control, telemetry gathering and transistor biasing, FPGA closed loop control, DC-DC conversion and power distribution and harnessing along with strong grounding knowledge and EMI background is preferred.
  • Related experience in either mission systems, spacecraft systems, ground systems or payloads is preferred.
  • Experience with Cameo Enterprise Architecture, SysML and DoDAF/UAF/UPDM is preferred.
  • Customer Knowledge: knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas and knowledge/experience working with critical customer base is preferred.
  • Analytical experience with WCA and Part Stress is preferred.



Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $77809 - $132275

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
