BAE Systems is looking for an Software Integration Support Engineer with excellent troubleshooting skills to join the Mobility Air Force Flight Planning Services (MAFPS) program. This engineer is part of a group whose mission is to provide local developer support as well as 24/7 operational support of the MAFPS software to drive software integration issues to resolution.
MAFPS incorporates mission, platform, navigation, airspace, weather and other aeronautical data from authoritative sources to generate and visualize 4-D optimized flight plans that adhere to complex global airspace business rules to support the USAF’s Air Mobility Command’s 618th Air Operations Center (AOC) daily worldwide airspace operations. This position is located in San Diego, CA.
The primary tasks of the Software Integration Support Engineer include but are not limited to the following:
- Monitoring, troubleshooting and fixing complex systems with external dependencies upon Linux/Unix and Windows platforms
- Management of release builds using Jenkins and Ansible
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline management of release candidates to test lines in a virtual machine environment
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

- BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 4 to 6+ years of large-scale systems administration and/or software development experience
- Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance
- Software installation, integration, checkout and manual testing skills
- Ability to troubleshoot developer needs to achieve various Agile objectives and iterative development schedules
- Ability to work with customers in a dynamic environment
- Ability to develop improved methods to increase program efficiency
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience with flight planning software
- Experience with software product development in an Agile environment
- 6+ years relevant work experience, including in a critical production service environment as well as experience leading short projects
- Hold an active Secret clearance
- Programming experience with scripting (Powershell, Bash, or Python)
- Experience using source control, bug tracking, and ticketing systems in a team environment
- Experience supporting web applications in Java, Jboss, PostgreSQL
- Experience developing applications on Unix/Linux platforms
- Experience building systems that use B2B data from external sources
- DevOps mentality with automation experience (Jenkins/Ansible)
- Proficient in learning and using command line tools to quickly triage and fix production issues then conduct root cause analysis
- Self-starter and able to work with limited supervision
- Ability to learn a complex software system quickly
- Customer service mentality - calm, customer-oriented communication
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $115779 - $196825
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
