Job Description BAE Systems, Land and Armaments is an industry leader in maintaining, operating and repairing advanced Naval Weapon Systems. Make complex setups and precise alignment of work pieces of machines and manufacture to extremely close tolerances as required in the specifications to manufacture a variety of precision parts made from various materials and configurations; bar stock and weldments.
Perform work in a facility where safety is a priority.
Operate a variety of machine tools such as:
- Lathes
- Milling machines
- Shapers
- Planers
- Precision grinders
Ability to make/fabricate metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
Determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup.
Uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds and speeds. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to layout stack for machining.
Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material, parts, and equipment required.
May modify numerically controlled programs on CNC/NC machines. Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training.Required Education, Experience, & Skills High school diploma or GED
2 years minimum of machining experience and/or vocational education
Working knowledge and skill set to read and use precision layout measuring instruments
Understanding and application of algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions to blueprint dimensions in the machining of complex parts
Ability to read and interpret multi-paged complex blueprints
Ability, confidence, and self-motivation to apply talents independently and with good judgment
Must be able to work independently
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Ability to setup and operate CNC/NC Mill/Lathe/Router preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Stand for long periods, stoop, bend, reach, and climb
Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds
Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Use of forklifts, hand trucks, and other lifting and moving equipment for heavier loads
