Why Sentinel? The Sentinel Program is an enormous and complex “Mega-Project” modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without any doubt, Sentinel is one of the DoD’s most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. Sentinel is the Department of Defense’s newest official “program of record,” having just achieved Milestone B. It enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project -- the weapon system will deploy over a nine-year period beginning in approximately 2026, and remain operational until at least 2075. Sentinel is a career-defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that simply are not available with smaller projects.

The primary focus of this position is to build and maintain a data warehouse. The current data warehouse is a SQL Server database housed in an on-premises, air-gapped network, so experience with T-SQL, C# or Powershell is a plus. Our data warehouse is a bit different than most found in corporate America. Most data warehouses and business intelligence outfits collect sales data to provide feedback to marketing. Their metrics are all based around revenue and income. We are a military acquisition, so all of our success metrics are based around expenditure and schedule. The data warehouse we are building collects all of the data about the acquisition: how much have we spent on what parts of Sentinel. Eventually we would like to collect metadata about actual engineering products to compare against our financial data, to actually gauge whether money spent equals progress made. This is something no other DoD program has ever attempted, and involves creating new and interesting data structures to collect and process the information. Please apply to find out more!

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, computer science, or information technologies. Other degrees will be considered provided that a candidate can demonstrate experience developing and maintaining a data warehouse.

• 7-10+ years of experience (5+ with Master’s degree)

• Strong data modeling skills

• Experience architecting, building, and/or maintaining a data warehouse

• Ability to distill technical specifications from customer requirements

• Self-motivated and works well under minimal supervision

• SQL, C# or Powershell

• Communication skills (written or verbal), including the ability to help others understand tools, technologies, and processes used to solve a problem

• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance adjudicated within the last six (6) years and the ability to obtain and maintain any necessary Special Program Access. The criteria for obtaining Clearance and SAP is set by the US Government.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Experience working on an Agile team

• Cross-functional engineering experience, such as aerospace/computer science or physics/programming OR Cross-functional business experience, such as project management/computer science or sales and marketing/data science

• Superior organizational skills and an affinity for detail

• Willingness to recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems
