Reports to the Director of Operations for Space Systems.

The National Space Strategic Business Unit works with members of the intelligence and defense communities to deliver space systems that drive mission success and provide resilient mission-level solutions to meet the customer’s greatest challenges.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with leadership of National Space (including Program Directors, Program Managers and Mission Area Leads) and Space & Mission Systems support units to support significant growth in the National Space Strategic Business Unit (SBU) with efficient and effective operations.
  • Help set the strategy for the National Space operations organization for proactive planning of new programs and capabilities required.
  • Support day to day execution of BAE Systems, Inc. customer contracts for hardware builds in terms of facilities and equipment needs for efficient overall execution.
  • Develop, in conjunction with Manufacturing & Test and Industrial Operations, a concept of operations for long term operations and sustainment for execution of small, medium, and large sized programs, multi-builds, and synchronous builds, to increase competitive landscape and develop discriminators.
  • Support proposal development by leading and promoting multi-discipline pursuit engagements and execution risk reviews in support of VP and President level reviews.
  • Establish business case, scope and schedule parameters for Strategic Capability Units (SCUs) to execute on capital investment projects.
  • Oversee the capital needs of the SBU and programs including coordination and facilitation of the FIRE Form Process (Facilities Infrastructure and Resource Evaluation) for the SBU.
  • Responsibilities include mission understanding, establishing customer needs (internal and external) and developing them into Business/Technical Requirements for the SCUs and establishing portfolio priorities for them.
  • Interact face-to-face with internal and external customers to respond to requests for information, support to technical meetings, technical interchanges, and enterprise working groups.
  • Lead a collaborative team comprised of program leadership and technical personnel at all levels, business management, facilities, Engineering, ITS, information assurance, security and mission assurance, as appropriate – be a liaison between National Space and these organizations.
  • Provide cross-enterprise operations insights at Business Development gate reviews and bring awareness of cross SBU issues.
  • Interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements with tools and interfaces used by programs and business development to improve efficiencies within the business unit.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS/BA in related field plus 10 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations management for National Space programs and infrastructure to meet needs of DoD or Intelligence customers.
  • Experience with BAE National Space proposal processes including RFIs, Studies, and RFPs.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to program and proposal activities and staff.
  • Knowledge of how to navigate a large matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures for building space hardware.
  • Demonstrated expertise in aerospace and defense industry, including knowledge of related disciplines in software engineering, hardware and manufacturing engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management, program and cyber security.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient with MS Office and must be able to work in a multi-task, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively work with people at all levels and with outside customers and willingness to contribute wherever and however needed.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, and ability to lead group discussions.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Yellow Belt or higher in Six Sigma.



Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $140690.000 - $239140.000

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
