Job Description This position will support the BAE Navigation and Sensor Systems operations group who manufactures defense electronics currently located in Coralville, Iowa. Currently seeking two second shift candidates. This role falls under the collective bargaining agreement between IBEW local 1634 and BAE Systems Coralville Operations. The Production/Equipment Maintenance Technician definition in the bargaining agreement is as follows:
Performs maintenance on all electrical/mechanical equipment used in the production process. Performs general equipment maintenance duties (excluding electrical) throughout the organization required to keep production processes operational. Works with engineers to correct design and test methods to improve the performance of the product and/or process. May perform work as described in any lower classification. Must maintain records and complete necessary paperwork required for all maintenance related activities. Responsible for general clean-up of the work area.
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform
all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site.
This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.
Standard hours are 4:00PM to 12:00PM with potential for deviation.
This role is with the BAE GPS business that is moving from its current Coralville, IA site to new building in Cedar Rapids airport area. This role will train and provide some support during first shift and will transition to full time appropriate shift upon completion of the manufacturing move in Oct 2022.Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Successful completion of a general written electrical/mechanical knowledge test is required.
- Must have the ability to attain a security clearance. All of the information to obtain a clearance must be completed during the first 3 months of employment. This includes providing citizenship info and completing the background information questions. Security clearance is required to allow access to secure area where equipment maintenance will be required to be performed.
- Must be willing to work with any equipment in the Microelectronics (including cleanroom ie: requires gowning up), surface mount process center, top level build/test and shipping areas.
- Physical Requirements
- Must be able to use a microscope and technical troubleshooting equipment.
- Must be able to break down complex electrical/mechanical control systems into subsystems to aid in troubleshooting.
- Must be capable of lifting and/or handling heavy parts, material, or equipment.
- May be required to stand for long periods of time.
- Must meet necessary visual requirements to perform this job.
- May be required to attend OEM equipment training to support new production equipment.
- Must become forklift certified.
- Required to complete annual trainings for lockout/tag out, fall protection, and other safety related trainings.
- Must be able to attend in person training upon being hired
- Role is with Union Rate and rates are pre-negotiated with Union
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Preferred two year degree in a maintenance discipline.
- Preferred experience with maintaining production equipment.
- Preferred mechanical/electrical system knowledge/experience
