Job Description

As an Outside Machinist Journey Person, you will:
- Perform a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing
- Use knowledge of equipment operation for assembly, installation and testing
- Perform valve and pump repair and overhaul
- Repair ship components using blueprints, sketches and sample parts
- Work with rudders, shafts, propellers and deck machinery
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Read, write and comprehend simple instructions
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals
- Know how to measure using a scale and tape measure
- Read, understand, and interpret blueprints to preform task required
- Use of measuring devices (rulers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth mics, scales, etc.), hand tools, and power tools
- Basic knowledge of blueprints
- Able to wear appropriate protective gear
- Able to physically perform essential job duties with or without accommodations
- Able to work at heights, in confined spaces and have the ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
- Trained in all annual NAVSEA Standard Items
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
- Minimum education: High school diploma/GED
- Minimum relevant experience: 1 to 2 yrs.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals
- Must know how to measure using a scale and tape measure
- Must be able to use specified tools required tools as determined by the shop management
- Maintain job site cleanliness
- Ability to work in confined Space Entry
- Able to work at heights (if applicable to trade)
- Be able to work off scaffolding (if applicable to trade)
- Able to work with hands
- Ability to walk, stand, long periods at a time
- Able to wear the required PPE
- Basic material identification skills
- Make measurements to 1/16" using measuring tape or ruler
- Basic blueprint reading (Excludes labor shop)
- Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution as required

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $59800 - $91645
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
