We’re seeking an experienced leader to join our Mission Operations team as a Factory Operations Manager. You’ll manage our factory sustainment teams (including factory vehicle engineers, product engineers, and ground systems engineers) to support test, factory reach-back, and operations/maintenance of space systems. You will also partner with related development programs to support effective preparation for, and transition to, operations.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:
- Lead teams performing engineering and sustainment support activities for space systems to maintain high mission availability (24x7, 365 days a year). Leadership responsibilities may include:
- Lead short-term and long-term planning to support space systems operations across the lifecycle
- Define roles and responsibilities for team members and teams
- Lead, mentor, and oversee team members and sub-team leads performing operations activities such as:
- Factory reachback support
- Anomaly resolution
- Operations planning and execution
- Updates to products, training, and tools
- Reports, status updates, and presentation
- Support the program manager in executing the program – including tracking and reporting on cost, schedule, and contract scope elements
- Work closely with functional and program management to define, secure, organize, and direct staff
- Develop training, standards, processes, procedures, and tools essential for successful execution
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with program managers, chief engineers, subcontractors, site team, and all program teams (systems engineer, simulator ops, mission I&T, etc).
- Lead identification and implementation of system upgrades to meet customer’s needs (e.g., space vehicle, ground software, mission performance)
- Establish effective communications within the program
- Effectively communicate and flow-down program requirements, purposes, objectives, and expectations to the internal team and subcontractors
- Resolve conflicts, demands, and priorities for the team
- Lead or support resolution of unplanned operations issues to a best solution, including development of plans-forward, escalation and increased resources, as needed
- Prepare and present technical and programmatic content to peers/management/customers
- Support customer working groups and reviews
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure adequate verification and validation of changes
- Provide guidance and leadership as a subject matter expert for:
- Space vehicle payload and bus operations
- Space vehicle command and control
- Space vehicle telemetry trending and analysis
- Space vehicle operational planning and execution
- Space vehicle anomaly resolution
- Space vehicle operational capability assessment
- Space vehicle orbit dynamics and attitude control
- Space vehicle sensor performance analysis
- Space vehicle calibrations
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 10 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
- Solid background in space systems with emphasis on ground and space segments and operations support programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with demanding customers, difficult schedules, and technically challenging projects.
- Experience in the following areas:
- On-console satellite operations
- Spacecraft commissioning
- Spacecraft, payload, or subsystem design
- Mission management, command and control
- Ground systems
- Operations readiness activities, rehearsals, and launch support activities
- Training of satellite operators
- Familiarity with operations processes such as discrepancy reporting, change management and anomaly response.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in relevant business environments.
- Ability to interface with technicians, peers, senior-level engineers, business development, management.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.
- Demonstrated experience in all phases of hardware program execution, including early planning, design reviews, manufacture, assembly, integration, test, sell-off, and on-orbit mission operation.
- Experience in related disciplines such as software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management.
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, concept of operations, requirement allocation, change management, verification, and validation.
- Knowledge of Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
