BAE Systems is seeking an exceptional Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system, known as the Sentinel ICBM Program.

Why Sentinel (formerly GBSD)?
The Sentinel Program is an enormous and complex “Mega-Project” modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without a doubt, Sentinel is one of the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment or replacement of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. Sentinel is one of the DoD’s newest official “programs of record,” having recently achieved Acquisitions Milestone B and enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project with the weapon system anticipated to deploy over a nine-year period beginning in 2026 and remaining operational until at least 2075. Sentinel is a career defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that are simply not available with smaller projects.

Job Description:
This Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineer will serve as an integral part of the LGM-35A Sentinel Aerospace Vehicle Equipment (AVE) Guidance Branch, working with a team of dedicated and experienced engineers and program managers in developing the Guidance Computer, the Inertial Measurement Unit, and supporting Accuracy Analysis for the Sentinel ICBM.

Duties include:
This GNC Engineer will: provide oversight on the Sentinel development contract through the review of technical and programmatic briefings and reports; independently develop analyses and assessments of GNC systems, functions, and algorithms; develop and provide briefings to Sentinel Program Office concerning the state of GNC development; and other special projects including supporting test events, analyzing test data, and conducting trades studies. This role requires effective interaction between counterparts at the Air Force customer, the Sentinel Prime Contractor, members of the BAE Guidance team, and Mission Partner Accuracy analysts.

This position is only located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, due to the special-access classified working environment and is not conducive to regular “telework” or remote schedules.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• 7+ years of demonstrated experience in engineering or management support of defense systems, technology, or research and development activities.(5+ years with Master's degree or higher)

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in: Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field

• Knowledge of product integration and interface management (involving both electrical and mechanical subsystems)

• Ability to provide critical evaluation of designs with a focus on eventual program success

• Excellent cognitive, communication (both written and spoken), and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated self-discipline to plan and prioritize their own work with successful results

• Proactive and creative problem solver with extreme attention to detail

• The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance and all necessary special program accesses. The criteria for obtaining and maintaining a security clearance is set by the US Government. You must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Graduate degree(s) in related technical or programmatic fields

• 10+ years of experience in Aerospace or Defense industry

• Experience leading interdisciplinary teams

• ICBM Weapon System experience

• Experience in Guidance, Navigation and Controls systems

• Familiarity with DoD product development lifecycle

• Requirements definition, management and verification

• An active US DoD Secret Security Clearance.
