Job Description BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Guidance, Navigation and Controls Engineer focused on Navigation to work on a team of GNC Engineers solving complex problems and bringing new technologies to market. This is an on-site or hybrid on-site position in Minneapolis working a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
This is a technical position performing guidance, navigation and control algorithm design and analysis for precision guided munition systems from concept to deployment. The primary focus of this position is navigation solution and tracking filter design, analysis, implementation, documentation, integration and test. The Guidance, Navigation and Control Group is responsible for all requirements, trade studies, algorithm designs and performance analyses required to develop products that navigate, guide and fly precisely and accurately.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, analysis and optimization of aided navigation systems, target track filters, mid-course and terminal guidance algorithms
- Analysis and integration of strapdown seekers, GPS receivers, radar data, and inertial measurement units
- Flight test support, data reduction and verification
- Use Kalman filtering, and other estimation techniques, to provided aided navigation solutions, target state estimates and other observers for guided flight
- Apply digital signal processing techniques and navigation system error analysis to verify sensor and filter performance
- Generate preflight performance predictions and adjust based on post flight reconstruction and analysis
- Develop, modify, and maintain software tools to include evaluation of nominal and Monte Carlo flight conditions at various levels of modeling fidelity
- Prepare presentations, reports, research, and other contract deliverables related to designs, analyses, and tests performed

- Typically a Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or Applied Mathematics or Applied Physics and 8+ years of experience in Guidance, Navigation or Controls theory, test and analysis.
- Experience developing and verifying models of concept flight systems and subsystems for strapdown seekers, radar systems, GPS/GNSS, launch platforms, inertial measurement units, magnetometers.
- Experience developing and verifying models of concept flight systems and subsystems for Navigation, upfinding, and air data estimation solutions.
- Developed and demonstrated advanced aided navigation solutions with strapdown inertial measurement units (IMU’s).
- Experience performing systems engineering trade studies, analysis of alternatives, sensitivity analysis, etc.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation using Simulink and analysis and optimization in Matlab.
- Proactive, self-starting, independent, flexible engineer with excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience as a technical fellow or other technical lead within GNC work.
- Current Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
- PhD in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or Applied Mathematics or Applied Physics.
- Experience with requirements analysis, stability analysis, and mission effectiveness analysis.
- Developed, tested and delivered code for a guided munition or other flight systems.
- Proven skills at developing, testing, and refining flight algorithms (Navigation filters, track filters, air data estimation, autopilots, guidance algorithms).
- Recent task management experience in an engineering development environment (schedule and budget tracking/work package management).
- Demonstrated presentation skills and experience interfacing with customer.
- Working knowledge of C/C++.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
