Why GBSD? The Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Program is an enormous and complex “Mega-Project” modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without any doubt, GBSD is one of the DoD’s most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. GBSD is the Department of Defense’s newest official “program of record,” having just achieved Milestone B. It enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project -- the weapon system will deploy over a nine-year period beginning in approximately 2026, and remain operational until at least 2075. GBSD is a career-defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that simply are not available with smaller projects.
Tell me about this job. This individual is a key advisor and assists the Government Customer in the oversight and execution of the Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase for ACAT 1D Major Defense Acquisition Program. They provide strategic inputs on planning and forecasting for acquisition schedules, cost, and risk mitigation. Also, advises Government Customer on interactions with Contractor and Senior Government Officials to include representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Headquarters Air Force, Congress, Department of Energy, United States Strategic Command, Air Force Global Strike Command and External Interface Stakeholders. This person will manage, coordinate, plan, organize controls, integrate, and execute a projects or collection of projects. They will model and demonstrate strong leadership in ethics, safety and security. They will be responsible for ensuring achievement of financial, schedule, technical and new business performance objectives and participating in the support of new business and in the development of financial plans for the company.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferably in a technical, scientific, or business field such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, computer science, or business administration.
10+ years experience (8+ with a Master's degree) in progressive areas of program or project technical leadership
8+ years acquisition experience in the Acquisition Workforce with at least 4 years assigned to a Acquisition Senior Material Leader Position in a program office or equivalent organization where at least 3 of those 4 years are as a Program Manager or Deputy Program Manager.
DAU Certified Level III Acquisition PM for ACAT II or higher program
You must hold and maintain a US Government clearance level of secret or higher. You must also be able to obtain and maintain necessary Special Access Program access. The criteria for obtaining clearance is set by the US Government. US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Highly Desired: Engineering Degree and Advanced Degree(s)
14+ years of applicable experience (12+ with a Master's degree is preferred)
HQ Program Element Monitor experience
Military service headquarters (Pentagon) or subordinate headquarters experience
Completed DSMC PMT 401 and 402 course
Leadership training from a DoD, university, or industry source
Level II or III Certification in a second DAWIA career field.
At least 2 years cross functional experience in a second DAWIA career field that directly impacted program(s) cost, schedule, and/or performance.
Superb leadership, communication and customer relations skill
