Job Description This supervisory position will report directly to the Regional Facilities Director, the work location will be at the BAE Systems in Austin, TX. The main campus and plant engineering offices are located at 825 E Howard Ln, Austin, TX. This campus consists of approximately 390,000 SF, housing approximately 750 employees including manufacturing, engineering and support staff. Our Austin campus will provide support to various business areas utilizing general office space, manufacturing facilities, environmental testing facilities, labs, and R&D spaces. The successful candidate will be part of a Plant Engineering team consisting of skilled tradespersons from the following disciplines: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Building Automation, General Maintenance and Chemical Handlers, a Facilities Manager, and a customer work order facilitator. This position acts independently to resolve long range goals and objectives. The plant engineering team maintains and operates the identified properties and buildings, supporting a variety of space types including offices, various classified areas, manufacturing spaces, assembly spaces, R&D spaces and specialty labs. Many of these space have 24/7 operations with defined temperature, humidity and particulate specifications.
The successful candidate will have experience in and strong technical and operational knowledge of building systems including but not limited to:
- Electrical distribution and maintenance for an industrial setting lighting, backup generators and transfer switches.
- Fire Alarm Systems and Fire Suppression Systems, including Fire Suppression Systems CO2/FE200) and Ansul Systems.
- HVAC Equipment including but not limited to of DX package units and chilled water units.
- Niagara Framework | Tridium – Building Automation System.
- Boilers and Humidifiers.
- Compressed Air Systems with critical dew point specifications.
The successful candidate will require training in chemical emergency response as an incident commander (HAZWOPER training). They will also be part of an Incident Response/Business Continuity Team requiring leading and supporting role for a variety of scenarios that would disrupt building operations. The candidate must be familiar with a variety of regulatory requirements including but not limited to SPCC Plans, Above Ground Storage Tanks, Hazardous Waste Storage, and Lock Out/Tag Out.
Functional capital planning and execution includes:
- Plan for facilities installations and plant rearrangements.
- Responsible for the review and estimate of designs, labor, materials and other costs related to facility planning. Directly develop facilities plans or work with external vendors to develop and implement facilities plans.
- Develop criteria, performance specifications and commissioning requirements for facilities and equipment to meet operating requirements and building, safety, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Develop AutoCAD architectural, engineering and construction drawings with Design Draftsmen for the planning, installation and relocation of facilities, equipment, and personnel.
- Determine requirements and prepare documentation for subcontractor services and materials.
- Prepare engineering design layouts, estimates, schedules and specifications for rearrangements, modifications or alteration of real property and equipment.
- Coordinate and direct resources as necessary for completion of tasks.
- Provide facilities engineering and technical support to Manufacturing, Engineering, Program Offices, etc. pertaining to all aspects of building and equipment requirements.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
In addition to the Functional Capital execution the successful candidate will support business capital projects by:
- Assist Plant Rearrangement and Equipment Installation projects.
- Provide design review, submittal review, and support execution for other engineers.
The successful candidate will lead, execute, and develop the expense budget requirements for the facility.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or Construction Management with 10+ year’s industrial building operational experience. Masters degree with 8+ years experience.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Preferred experience in a supervisory role with direct reports of various technical expertise. The candidate must have a proven successful record of communication skills (verbal and written) with direct reports, building occupants, functional managers and executive leadership. This position will provide senior leadership with consultation on long range project and plans affecting the department and site.
