Job Description Entry to Mid-Level Position in Ship Repair industrial setting.

Located along the waterfront of the San Diego Bay our team works to ensure the water, air and beautiful city we live in benefits from our effort to protect. Our core business is repair and maintenance of navy ships. Our team is looking for a motivated professional that can manage and maintain the air compliance program for a busy shipyard. Typical job duties involve tracking and maintaining records, employee and customer training, subcontractor onboarding, report development and conducting quarterly agency inspections with the local air district. A typical day can involve activities such as; spill response (reporting & investigating), coordination of wildlife rescue (injured birds, sea mammals, feral cats and bee swarms), internal site audits & inspections for work authorization/compliance, gathering of usage reports for welding, painting & fuel consumption. As the resident air expert assist with projects that require permitting with CARB, APCD or the Port of San Diego. 70% of the job is done in the office with 30% being in the field. Attendance required at occasional community meetings in the evening. Occasional site visits to the Naval Base or local company warehouses for compliance and inspections. Job requires working near water, in small boats to investigate spills, on large Navy vessels, climbing ladders, scaffolding, may include heights greater than 10 ft. Must be capable of navigating confined spaces on board naval vessels, have the ability to wear required PPE.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or relevant experience.
Entry to Mid-Level Position in Ship Repair industrial setting
40 hour HAZWOPER with maintained 8-hour refresher, valid driver's license.
Relevant experience working with air permits with limits and caps. Strong communication skills both written and spoken are essential. Ability to gather and organize data for air emission program, research, read and understand the regulations and rules as applicable to the site. Willingness to respond to many competing tasks that will involve email, phone and face to face conversations. Experience developing presentations and maintaining a strong verbal presence across a diverse population is essential. Must have the ability to work independently without direction but can also assist team mates as needed. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Experience with Overwater Transfers, Oil Spill Contingency Plans, SPCC, UNDS, ICS, Navy Contracts, California hazardous waste rules, hazardous materials storage, NPDES permits, SWPPPs, DOT regulations and shipping manifests, sampling and analysis, Emissions Inventory Reports, Health Risk Assessments, Toxic Hot Spots reporting, TRI reporting, biannual reporting, permitting for dredge and waterfront work, energy and sustainability reporting.
