Job Description The DEWS is a Threat Warning (TW) and Threat Response (TR) system used to increase survivability of the host aircraft against RF and IR controlled missile threats. The TW capability comprised of Radar Warning (RW) and Missile Warning (MW) integrates information gained via the platform receiving capability with information gained from the RW and MW capabilities and uses the fused information to select the optimum countermeasure response. Detected threats are defeated by the TR system by providing on-platform countermeasures by utilization of selected techniques that deny usage or by sufficiently delaying the threat weapons utilizing its own platform Countermeasure (CM) dispensing capability.
The TR capability is partitioned such that its performance can be upgraded via software and firmware changes loaded using a standard memory loader verifier and mission data accepted via the Programmer Loader/Verifier (PLV) Ethernet (compiled by a mission planning system). The TW has capability to store limited mission data in a memory medium such that it is retained during prosecution of the mission but can be erased upon mission completion or replaced during mission prosecution. Preloaded Mission Data Files (MDF) and the above mission data are referred to here-in-after as MDF unless otherwise indicated.
The DEWS is a ground-to-air, air-to-air warning and protection system for fixed wing aircraft which can detect threats and providing self-protection. The DEWS is designed to detect and declare potentially lethal threats presence, discriminate against false targets, provide the pilot of situational awareness, and provide signal jamming and dispensing of expendable countermeasures as defined in the MDF.
