Job Description BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the engineering and integration efforts for Intelligence Solutions (IS) business. The qualified candidate will partner with the business leaders across the sector, I&S, and our customers to ensure smooth project execution, strong team building, defending work share and growing scope.
As the business area Engineering Authority, the Chief Engineer of IS has the following areas of responsibility.
- Serve as the Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for acquisitions conducted by our customers across the Intel, Defense, and Civilian markets covering both enterprise-wide as well as point solutions for life-cycle engineering and sustainment requirements.
- Represent the technical team to project managers, PTLs, functions and executive leadership. Responsible for developing overall technical solutions and managed services offering considering system, software and infrastructure cost baselines for multiple product baselines
- Ensure all programs within IS are performing under the BAE Systems Life Cycle Management (LCM) processes.
- Serve as the engineering lead in the start-up or transition of programs from award to execution.
- Assist programs that have become distressed due to execution issues or to insert innovations to advance the programs and the business.
- Foster innovation and capability development throughout the business with responsibility to develop the investment roadmaps.
- Engage with our I&S University to foster business area engagement in continued learning as well as the development of career pathways and targeted education.
The Chief Engineer will have a proven execution track record of full-scale program execution through excellent risk assessment, outstanding leadership, and strong decision making with solid analysis skills. The Chief Engineer will be provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary development teams in the design, development, testing, implementing, fielding, and support of multiple software and system baselines.
It is expected that the Chief Engineer will perform as the “Voice of the Customer” for system design, technical performance, and other system needs, provide technical stewardship of the engineering effort for the entire program ensuring the solution meets customer programmatic and technical requirements within the allocated engineering cost and schedule.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Requires an active TS/SCI clearance
- Master of Science degree in engineering/technical discipline, and 15+ year(s)’ related experience or equivalent experience, training and/or certifications.
- Experience with managing and maintaining multiple configuration baselines to meet various customer and project needs
- Experience in developing and delivering technical solutions for managed services using on premise and hybrid cloud architectures
- Managing a team of systems engineers, software developers, and multiple technology vendor teammates
- Demonstrated leadership skills (soft skills, strategic thinking, business acumen, supervisory experience, building teams, building customer relationships)
- Experience leading teams, projects, and/or programs consisting of System Engineering, Software development, and large IT services efforts.
Proven execution of a full scale program through excellent risk assessment, outstanding leadership, and strong decision making through analysisPreferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- PhD in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
- Experience developing proposals, ECPs, and whitepapers focused on new business
- Experience with strategy development and execution
- Knowledge of open, standards-based architectures, interfaces
- Experience in Program Pre-Mortem analysis
- Development experience of a User Interface supported by backend services
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to diagnose, resolve complex problems and to develop improved methods to increase program efficiency
- Experience with customer/stakeholder communication, management, relationship building, and customer satisfaction
- Proven ability to garner the trust of Customers, influence government decisions and is able to adapt a positive leadership style when the working environment becomes contentious
- Proven business intelligence skills
- Proficient analyzing customer needs, and reviewing user stories and technical tasks to achieve various Agile objectives and iterative development schedules
- Deep analytical and problem solving abilities. Reviews and judges the suitability of capability solutions and the planned approach
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all. Advises stakeholders on issues affecting the “broader” engineering approach to engineering activities.
- Proven written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
- Strong proposal writing and review skills
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $169630 - $288370
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
