|BAE Systems Jacksonville Florida Ship Repair Site is seeking candidates for its Outside Machinist opportunity. The selected candidate will perform a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing. The Mechanic will have general knowledge of equipment operation for assembly, installation and testing; records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures.|
|Key Responsibilities & Functional Knowledge|
|This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of a third class mechanic in the Outside Machinist shop. The selected mechanic must demonstrate a developing knowledge of the skills, functional knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and related areas of responsibility. |
Developing knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them with minimal assistance. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. In some cases, as specified, the third class mechanic is expected to assist, rather than completing the task independently.
Required Skills and Education
Must be able to obtain DBIDS Access Card.
Assist with the duties under the direction of a technician or a first class machinist.
Must be able to follow directions form supervisors and fellow workers.
# Open, inspect, overhaul, repair, scrape, align, operate, & test various equipment on board ships and in the shop.
# Accomplish alignments including internal alignments such as Bearing housing, Packing boxes, Diaphragms, Casing rings & etc. using reverse dual dial indicator method, Face & Rim method, Alignment bar method.
# Accomplishing scrapping & fitting casings, casing ring, bearing housings, packing box housings, & bearings.
# Accomplish overhauling, operating, setting, & testing of Governors, Servo motors, High & Low Pressure Trips, Control linkages, Coolers, Heat exchangers, Strainers, Condensers, including replacing and rolling tubes, all types of Gear boxes, Reduction Gears, and Clutches.
Preferred Skills and Education Outside Machinist with 2-7 years experience in the mechanical field. Knowledge in machinery alignments, overhauling equipment, and ship board repairs. Must have good communication skills and be able to take direction and give direction to fellow workers. Person must be able to work with others and independently.
